The opening practice for the Sprint Cup Series is in the books at the Bristol Motor Speeway and Michael Waltrip Racing's David Reutimann has put his No. 00 Toyota Camry atop the leaderboard. Running a total of thirty-three laps around the high-banked half-mile, Reutimann put his Aaron's Dream Machine at the top of the pylon with a fast lap of 15.258 seconds at a speed of 125.757 mph.
Stewart Haas Racing's Ryan Newman is looking for a solid weekend in Bristol and started it off on the right foot by putting his No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet second-quick on the board. Newman posted his fastest lap thanks to a run of 15.318 seconds at a speed of 125.264 mph.
Hendrick Motorsports' Jimmie Johnson, Richard Petty Motorsports' Elliott Sadler and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing's Juan Pablo Montoya rounded out the top-5. Defending race winner Jeff Burton could only muster a lap fast enough for the 32nd-spot. Check out This Week's Races page for a complete run-down of Friday's opening practice session. The next time the Cup cars will hit the high-banked concrete will be at 3:40 p.m. E.T. for qualifying.
