Hamlin Looking For Redemption
Saturday, 21 March 2009 13:04

denny-hamlinOver the last few years Denny Hamlin has proved he knows how to get around the Bristol Motor Speedway. In the two previous Spring races Hamlin has led a total of 275 laps, but has yet to visit victory lane. Showing he is ready to finally get the job done, Hamlin paced Saturday's final practice with a fast lap of 15.553 seconds at a speed of 123.372 mph in his No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota.

"The FedEx team always races well here," Hamlin said after Friday's qualifying session in which he posted the 24th-fastest time. "On race day we'll have plenty of time to get to the front of the field. [Saturday] we'll work on race set-up and on Sunday we'll race and run well."

Focusing solely on race trim, the majority of teams worked on getting a comfort in the car that will last for 500 miles around the 'World's Fastest Half Mile.'

Stewart-Haas Racing's Ryan Newman continued his strong weekend by putting his No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet second on the board. Mired 32nd in points, Newman is in desperate need of a consistent top-10 run at least.

Points leader Jeff Gordon was third-quick during Saturday's final session with a lap of 15.606 seconds. The five-time Bristol winner will roll off from the tenth-spot on Sunday as he goes for his first Cup Series victory since Lowe's in October 2007.

Hamlin's teammate Kyle Busch was fourth-fastest in the final practice, while Michael Waltrip Racing's David Reutimann continued his strong weekend by putting his No. 00 Aaron's Dream Machine fifth on the board.
