Known to get the job done on the race track, Richard Petty Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne took time last week to raise awareness for the dangers of careless driving.
On March 19, Kahne and SPEED TV commentator John Roberts took the Allstate Teen Safe Driving Pit Stop to the Centennial High School in Franklin, Tennessee. Not your ordinary school assembly, the students of the Centennial High School had the chance to see one of NASCAR biggest stars and learned a great lesson at the same time.
Each year nearly 5,000 teens are killed and more than 375,000 more are injured as a result of reckless and careless driving. Kahne has partnered with sponsor Allstate to help raise awareness of these staggering statistics and use his star-power to help teach teens to pay attention while behind the wheel.
In 2007, 165 teenagers lost their lives to careless driving. To honor their memory, Kahne and his No. 9 crew work wrist bands with "TN-165" on them this weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway. According to a recent study, Nashville ranks fourth amonst the nation's ten deadliest metro areas for fatal teen accidents. Trying to curb these numbers and bring the message of safe driving to the students, Kahne spent the day answering questions, signing autographs and visiting with teens.

Teens are encouraged to visit www.allstate.com/teen with their parents and fill out Allstate's interactive Parent-Teen Driving Contract. This contract establishes safe driving guidlines and provides teens and parents a variety of ways to reduce distractions while behind the wheel of a vehicle.
