LMS Donating Portion Of Ticket Sales To Autism Speaks Foundation
Tuesday, 07 April 2009 08:45

lowes-motor-speedwayIn honor of Autism Awareness Month, Lowe’s Motor Speedway has announced that for any ticket sold to the Sprint All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600 from April 3-April 11, $10 will be donated to the Autism Speaks Foundation.

One of the fastest growing disorders amongst children, Autism “inhibits a person’s ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral changes.” Autism affects one in every 150 children in the United States and the number of cases has increased tenfold in the last ten years. There is no known cause for the disorder and a cure has yet to be discovered.

"Autism affects millions of families around the world, including many of our great fans," Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway explained. "We've worked with local non-profit groups that help children with autism and their families through Speedway Children's Charities. Now we've decided to significantly expand those efforts to help Autism Speaks increase awareness of the disorder and raise funds to help find a cure.

"FOX and SPEED are working with us this weekend to help get the word out to race fans so we can try to raise as much as possible for this great cause."

As Smith mentioned, the money raised through this campaign will go towards funding autism research, awareness, advocacy and family services.  For more information be sure to visit www.AutismSpeaks.org.
