Online voting for the 2009 Talladega - Texaco Walk of Fame has begun and Hardcore Race Fans are encouraged to participate in deciding who will be honored as the next inductees.
The Walk of Fame, located at the Davey Allison Memorial park in downtown Talladega, has inducted one active driver and up to two inactive drivers since 1995 based on the vote of the fans. The 2009 induction ceremony is scheduled to take place Saturday, October 31, 2009.
Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Robby Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, Elliott Sadler, Morgan Shepherd and Michael Waltrip make up the 2009 active drivers ballot, while Jim Paschal, Bill Rexford, Jack Smith and Speedy Thompson are nominees among inactive drivers. Past active driver inductees include Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Ernie Irvan, Dale Jarrett, Bill Elliott, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Bobby Hamilton, Ricky Rudd, Mark Martin, Kyle Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth and Bobby Labonte. Richard Petty and Benny Parsons were the first inactive drivers to be inducted and were later joined by Alan Kulwicki, Cale Yarborough, Ned Jarrett, Buddy Baker, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Harry Gant, Lee Petty, Tim Flock, Fireball Roberts, Buck Baker, Joe Weatherly, Red Byron, Bobby Isaac, Fred Lorenzen, Fonty Flock, Herb Thomas, Rusty Wallace, Terry Labonte and Rex White. The first inductees were "Alabama Gang" drivers Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Red Farmer and Neil Bonnett.
