Ending much speculation, Mark Martin announced Wednesday he would once again compete on a full-time basis for Hendrick Motorsports in 2010. The 50-year-old veteran will run the 36-race schedule in the No. 5 car in what will be his 22nd full-season at the Cup level.
“It means a lot to drive the No. 5 Chevy for Rick and for Hendrick Motorsports,” Martin, explained. “I’m in the best condition of my life, I’m recharged, and I’m motivated. Going to the racetrack every weekend is still really fun, and that’s the key. There’s more gas in my tank.”
The Batesville, Arkansas-native has proven that this year by earning three poles in the first ten races and scoring the win at Phoenix three races ago. Martin struggled early in the season, but in almost every case, the result was not indicative of how the team performed. Bad luck seemed to bite the No. 5 team more than any other team out there. Putting all of their poor luck behind them, Martin and his guys scored the victory under the lights in Phoenix.
“Week in and week out, Mark continues to be one of the best race car drivers in the world,” team owner Rick Hendrick added. “He’s already made an incredible contribution to Hendrick Motorsports, and our entire company is excited about running another full season and winning races with him in 2010.” Be sure to check back to HardcoreRaceFans.com for further developments.
