Brad Keselowski is still having trouble believing he is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner. The 25-year-old driver scored his first career Cup Series win in controversial fashion two weeks ago at the Talladega Superspeedway after contact with Carl Edwards sent the No. 99 into the air and out of the lead. Earning the win in only his fifth career start, Keselowski had a week off to relish the victory.
“I continue to have to remind myself that I actually won at Talladega two weeks ago,” Keselowski admitted. “It really was quite a surreal experience, but one that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and will probably continue to reap the benefits from.”
This week, the young driver is back behind the wheel of a Cup car, this time for Hendrick Motorsports. Heading to the Darlington Raceway for the Southern 500 presented by GoDaddy.com, Keselowski carries momentum and the race’s presenting sponsor. “There is no doubt in my mind that I can do the same thing in this GoDaddy.com Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports, and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to get out and try this weekend,” Keselowski added. “Lance (McGrew, crew chief) and the guys are bringing back our Texas car, and I’d like nothing more than to follow up my stint in Talladega with another top-10 or win in it.” Saturday night’s event will mark Keselowski’s first Cup race at the famed Darlington Raceway, but he does have two previous starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the track ‘Too Tough To Tame.’ “They don’t call Darlington the ‘track too tough to tame’ for nothing, and I know it is going to be a challenge for me to qualify the GoDaddy.com Chevy this weekend,” he explained. “But I’ve never backed down from a challenge, and I definitely don’t plan to this weekend. My GoDaddy.com team is bringing me a great car and I know with their help, we can get this No. 25 in the race and post a solid finish.”
With forty-seven cars on the preliminary entry list for this weekend’s Southern 500 presented by GoDaddy.com, Keselowski will have to make his way into the show on time during Friday evening’s qualifying session.
