Jimmie Johnson fast at Lowe’s Motor Speedway? Imagine that. The driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet took to the familiar place atop the leaderboard at the 1.5-mile track in Charlotte during Friday’s lone practice session for the Sprint All-Star Race. The three-time defending series champion posted a fast-lap of 29.445 seconds at a speed of 183.393 mph to earn the fastest time.
Kyle Busch was second-quick in his No. 18 M&M’s Toyota with a lap of 29.639 seconds at 182.192 mph. The younger Busch brother is looking to finish his first All-Star Race tomorrow night. Last week’s winner Mark Martin was third-fastest, while Jeff Burton and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top-5.
Qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race is scheduled for later this evening, with drivers taking three laps, one of which they are required to hit pit road for a four-tire pit stop. The starting order will be set by the best cumulative time of the eighteen teams.
