Although rain had subsided for the most part, track drying efforts were unable to get the job done in time for the thirty-five cars entered into the Sprint All-Star Showdown to make qualifying runs. With qualifying cancelled, the field will be set according to the qualifying draw.
The No. 27 of Kirk Shelmerdine was first on the qualifying order, with the No. 46 of Carl Long scheduled to roll off second. Shelmerdine was unable to get his car through the inspection line on time and will be forced to drop to the back of the pack prior to the drop of the green flag. In addition, Long had engine issues and will also be forced to the rear of the field, leaving Penske Racing’s David Stremme with the honor of starting on the pole.
Dave Blaney will start to Stremme’s outside, followed by Scott Riggs, Martin Truex Jr. and David Ragan. The top-two finishers in tomorrow night’s two-segment, forty-lap Sprint All-Star Showdown will transfer into the night’s main event, along with another drivers moving on thanks to a fan vote.
