marcus-smithWith fans making the sport as big as it has gotten over the years, Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS) is going the extra mile to satisfy the Hardcore Race Fans taking part in the activities during race week by hosting a world class barbeque contest.

The Prilosec OTCR BBQ Shootout Series, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, will be an invitation-only competition featuring 14 expert teams, honorary judges, cooking demonstrations, food sampling and total posted awards of $15,000, with $2,500 going to the Grand Champion.

Lotta Bull BBQ from Marietta, Okla., Wood Chicks BBQ from Chesapeake, Va., Texas Rib Rangers from Denton, Texas, and Tarheel Smokers from Hertford, N.C., are among the teams set to compete.

Getting the better tasting end of the deal, the fans will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of foods including pork and beef sandwiches, barbecued chicken, ribs, brisket and sauces.

lowes-motor-speedway"This is an innovative new competition that includes award-winning pit masters and barbecue teams from around the country," stated president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway Marcus Smith. "They'll compete for the prestige and prize money of an event championship, but the real winners will be the fans that get to taste all the food fresh off the grills this weekend."

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Speedway Children’s Charities and the NASCAR Foundation.

Contestants will begin to sell their products on Thursday close to the speedway’s main entrance. Judging will take place on Saturday morning at 10am in the Prilosec OTCR display located in the souvenir area. At 1:45pm on Sunday afternoon, awards will be handed out to the competitors.
