david-pearsonMooresville, NC has a constant air of excitement about it, especially during Race Week in May. You never know what you may see or who you may meet when you are visiting Race City, USA; yesterday was no different.

Much to the delight of some Hardcore Race Fans, some of NASCAR’s most legendary drivers made an appearance at the North Carolina Auto Racing Walk of Fame Ceremony outside of the Charles Mack Citizen Center in Historic Downtown Mooresville.

"The King” Richard Petty, the inaugural inductee of the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame (NCARHOF), was joined by Buddy Baker, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Bobby Allison and Ned Jarrett along with members of Tim Flock and Dale Earnhardt’s families.

The Walk of Fame, an extension of the NCARHOF, features markers on the sidewalks of Mooresville honoring the inductees of the Hall of Fame. Each driver present was honored with their own marker because of their Inductee status and any person inducted in the future will also receive a marker on the sidewalk.

taylor-theresaInductees Bill France, Sr., Cale Yarborough, Ralph Moody Jr., and Darrell Waltrip were also honored with markers.

I think it’s done in just wonderful taste, it’s just absolutely gorgeous,” Frances Flock, wife of Tim Flock, said of the Walk. “I’m so happy here today that I can be a part of it and that they are recognizing our legend drivers that made racing what it is today”

The Walk of Fame was the idea of Ron Johnson, Chairman of the Mooresville Convention and Visitor’s Bureau who generously funded the project, as well as John Dodson of the NASCAR Technical Institute who sits on the Board of Directors for the NCARHOF.

After five years in the making, their idea has finally come to fruition and will be a constant reminder of the heroes of NASCAR to the Hardcore Race Fans who wander the streets of Race City, USA every year.
