Coca-Cola 600 Postponed Until Monday

fans-leaving-lowesDespite numerous track drying efforts, Mother Nature won out Sunday evening as showers fell on the Lowe’s Motor Speedway forcing NASCAR officials to postpone the race until Monday. Hardcore Race Fans from throughout the nation donned the ponchos and attempted to wait out the rain, unfortunately they will have to return to the 1.5-mile facility for a Monday matinee.

When the field takes the green flag at noon, Ryan Newman will roll off from the pole with Kyle Busch to his outside. Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson will round out the top-5.

Ironically, the inaugural running of the Coca-Cola 600 – then called the World 600 – was postponed after three weeks of delays as a result of construction. This year’s race, the 50th running of the event, is only the second Coca-Cola 600 to be postponed and the first for rain. There have been three rain-shortened 600s; 1968, 1997 and 2003.
