With Confidence On His Side
Friday, 29 May 2009 09:10

david-reutimannProving his win in Monday's rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600 was no fluke, David Reutimann's No. 00 was atop the leaderboard at the end of Friday's opening practice for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at the Dover International Raceway. Running a total of sixteen laps, Reutimann posted the fastest time of the session thanks to a lap of 22.862 seconds at 157.467 mph.

Kasey Kahne was second-fastest in the opening session in his No. 9 Budweiser Dodge. Kahne put his No. 9 second on the speed charts thanks in part to the new Dodge engine, which his team is using for the first time this weekend.

Four-time Dover winner Jeff Gordon was third-fastest in his No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. The current points leader ran only nine total laps and laid down a fast-lap of 22.937 seconds at 156.952 mph. Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top-5.

The stars of the Sprint Cup Series hit the track again at 3:10pm E.T. to qualify for Sunday’s Autism Speaks 400 presented by Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips and Cheese.
