A Dale Earnhardt Jr. themed Children’s Dream Racer is on display at JR Motorsports through Thursday. The Racer is one of five purchased by the band 3 Doors Down.

Children’s Dream Racer is a children’s charity that builds miniature race car reproductions that are donated to children’s hospitals across the country. Each Racer comes with a television, a video game system with a steering wheel and pedals, and a place for an oxygen tank and IV pole.

Mark "Smitty" Smith, the dreamer behind Children’s Dream Racer, explained how 3 Doors Down discovered his organization.

"A lady named Peggy saw the David Poole article (about Children’s Dream Racer) while she was in the waiting room at her doctor’s office. She asked the receptionist if she could cut the article out of the paper and she said yes. She took it back and contacted me about the price and things about the little car. I sent her an album and some things, brochures. She took it to the fellas at 3 Doors Down. Long story short they bought five, originally they were going to buy one, then they thought they’d buy three, and when it was all said and done they bought five."

Dale Jr. was featured in a 3 Doors Down music video for "The Road I’m On" and he has run a 3 Doors Down paint scheme on his race car on multiple occasions.

The band decided to continue their relationship by designing some of the Dream Racers they have purchased with a Dale Jr. paint scheme.

"3 Doors Down wanted that," Smith said of the design. "Junior and his marketing and licensing people graciously agreed and I think there’s even going to be three cars with this same paint scheme and the other two will vary a bit."

Once all five Dream Racers are ready, they will be unveiled on different dates at different children’s hospitals throughout the south. The car on display at JR Motorsports is headed to Mobile, Alabama.
