A Day In Their Shoes
Tuesday, 23 June 2009 19:01

tony-stewartVia his “Smoke Show” fantasy driving camp, Tony Stewart is giving 60 lucky Hardcore Race Fans the chance of a lifetime.

The camp will be held August 4-5 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS), and will be held to raise funds for the Texas chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC). The Hardcore Race Fans attending will have the chance to choose either or both days, and follow in the footsteps of a NASCAR driver for a typical race day.

Fans will partake in a custom locker room, pre-race ceremonies, racing in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Car around the speedway and live through a typical TMS Victory Lane celebration (confetti, cowboy hat and guns included).

Not only will the two-time Sprint Cup Series champion give the pre-race speech, he will also take the participants for an unforgettable two-seater ride around the track, sit with the fans for a special dinner, share in a Q&A session and interact with the attendants as they walk in his shoes for a day.

“It was great to see the generosity of the folks who participated last year, and I am hopeful that we will be able to double the amount we raised at last year’s event for Speedway Children’s Charities,” Stewart stated. “It’s a great opportunity to have some serious fun and know that you also contributed to a great cause.”

In last year’s first “Smoke Show” fantasy camp, the event stockpiled $262,000 for the SCC-Texas Chapter which was the highest intake in one day in their existence. Hoping his expansion of the event to two days will bring more accomplices, Stewart has plans of blowing past last year’s numbers.

“The folks that came out last year for the ‘Smoke Show’ had a blast with Tony,” said Eddie Gossage, Texas Motor Speedway President. “The fact that he wanted to expand the camp to two days this year is a testament to his generosity and passion for Speedway Children’s Charities.”
