The Richard Childress Racing No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet that the late Dale Earnhardt earned his final victory in will be traveling overseas this summer. Driven by seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, the No. 3 machine will participate in this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed at the Goodwood House in West Sussex, England. Cars will partake in demonstration and competition runs up the 1.16-mile hillclimb track.
Earnhardt’s youngest child Taylor Earnhardt will drive the car in the demonstration runs. That will mark her first time behind the wheel of a stock car. Her mother Teresa Earnhardt, president and CEO of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., will attend the festival with her.
“I was honored to be asked by Lord March to have one of legendary RCR black No. 3 Chevrolets participate in this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed,” said president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing, Richard Childress. “This is a great opportunity to promote the legacy of Dale Earnhardt not only in the United States but throughout the world. I also think it’s great that Taylor will have the opportunity to drive the car her father made so famous.” The particular No. 3 Chevrolet involved in the event was driven into Victory Lane by Earnhardt in the 2000 Winston 500 at Talldega Superspeedway. Since 2003 the car has been on permanent display. The car left port in Charleston, South Carolina on the Dublin Express on June 6, and arrived in Southhampton, England on June 21. Former No. 3 crew members Danny Lawrence and Rich Burgess prepared and will care for the car at the celebration. “It’s quite an honor to be a part of an event like this and all of the history and nostalgia associated with the Goodwood Festival. It’s very, very exciting,” stated Taylor Earnhardt. “I’ve already spent some time in the car getting used to it, and I’m looking forward to the demonstration run. Hopefully, the fans in the United States and around the world will enjoy seeing one of my father’s winning cars participate in this awesome event.” MORE NASCAR NEWS
