With all of the drama following Jeremy Mayfield since failing the random drug test assessed by NASCAR, the owner/driver may be able to return to the track as early as this weekend.
On Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Charlotte, North Carolina senior Judge Graham Mullen ruled to lift Mayfield’s suspension and granted him a temporary injunction. "The truth came out. That's what it's all about,” Mayfield told reporters. "The main thing is we're able to race again.”
NASCAR spokesman Randy Poston stated that the sanctioning body will test Mayfield every week in whichever way they deem fit starting the first week he decides to return. "We are disappointed, but we respect the judge's ruling," Poston said. "This is only a temporary injunction. The legal case continues beyond this point, and we will continue to make our case."
