With the Coke Zero 400 weekend Powered By Coca-Cola falling on the anniversary of the day that our country became independent, Daytona International Speedway will honor five Medal of Honor recipients. The five honorary veterans all fought in the Vietnam War with the United States military, they are: • Walter Marm, a retired U.S Army Colonel from Washington, Penn. • Kenneth Stumpf, a retired U.S Army Sergeant Major from Neenah, Wis. • John McGinty, a retired U.S Marine Captain from Boston, Mass. • Charles Hagemeister, a retired U.S Army Lieutenant Colonel from Lincoln, Neb. • Gary Littrell, a retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major from Henderson, Ky.
A special luncheon will be held to pay tribute to the five heroes on Friday at 12pm EST at the Bill France Room in the Daytona 500 Experience. The Medal of Honor receivers will also attend the driver’s meetings and partake in the pre-race ceremonies for the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races. “Bill France Sr. honored Medal of Honor recipients during the 400-mile mid-summer classics back in the 1970s and we’re looking forward to restarting that program during this year’s Coke Zero 400 Weekend,” Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig said. “Through their military service to our country, these men have helped preserve the freedom and liberties that we enjoy today and we’re proud to honor them during the upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend.” Tickets for the Coke Zero 400 weekend Powered By Coca-Cola are still available and can be purchased by calling 1-800-PITSHOP or by visiting www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com.
