Winged Front Row In The Windy City

brian-vickersBrian Vickers earned his fifth pole start in Thursday evening’s qualifying session for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

 

Taking the No. 83 Red Bull Toyota around the 1.5 mile tri-oval in 29.32 with a top speed of 184.162, Vickers backed up his first place run in the series’ first practice session on Thursday afternoon.

 

In four career starts at Chicagoland, Vickers has yet to finish outside of the top-15. Earning his best starting position at the track on Thursday, look for Vickers to keep his wings flapping to collect his best finish as well.

 

scott-speedStarting the LifeLock.com 400 on Vickers’ right hand side will be his rookie teammate Scott Speed. Speed’s second place effort in qualifying bested his highest result this season by six spots.

 

On the hunt for his fourth title, Jimmie Johnson will lead the second row. Circling Chicagoland in 29.64 seconds with a high speed of 182.217 miles per hour, Johnson fell short of second place by a little over two-tenths of a second.

 

Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer will conclude the top-5 of the starting field.

 

Defending race winner Kyle Busch will start Saturday night’s race in the sixth position, with Jeff Gordon, Bill Elliott, David Reutimann and Marcos Ambrose filling out the top-10.

 

Points leader Tony Stewart couldn’t muster up enough speed for a strong starting spot, and will start the race in the 32nd position.
