Kasey Kahne turned in a solid performance in the Lifelock.com 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway Saturday night, crossing the finish line third behind winner Mark Martin and runner - up Jeff Gordon, marking his first top - five finish at the Joliet, Illinois track in six races. It is Kahne's third top - five of the 2009 season.
"We’ve been on a roll I would say for a while now," Kahne said after Saturday night's race. "I’d say this is eight or nine weeks straight where we’ve been capable of running in the top-five or top-10 and we finished it off tonight solid." The popular Washington state native won on the road course at Infineon three weeks ago and scored his sixth top 10 of the season the following week at New Hampshire. Kahne is currently eigth in the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup points standings.
"We just have to keep it up," Kahne continued. "The guys are doing a great job. Kenny Francis and the guys are top of the line. We’ve just got to keep it up, keep not making mistakes and communicating and we should be just fine.”
Kahne picked up the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race award at Chicagoland, leading the Lifelock.com 400 one time for two laps and bringing his total laps led to 85 for the year. This is the second time this season the driver of the red #9 has been honored with the award. Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart are tied for the lead in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will return to action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard on July 26 after taking a scheduled break this coming weekend.
