Monday, 13 July 2009 23:02

marcos-ambroseStarting the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series LifeLock.com 400 in the tenth position, Marcos Ambrose and the No. 47 team looked to have one of the cars to beat at Chicagoland Speedway.

Ambrose fell a lap down in the first 100 laps, and lost another lap to the race leaders by lap 186. With the night looking grim for the Kingsford team, they knew something had to change.

Battling a loose handling car for much of the race the Ambrose's pit crew was able to get the Toyota corrected and earn their laps back due to two cautions.

Getting on the lead lap by the 22nd lap, Ambrose was able to cross the finish line in the 11th position.

Recovering from his early race troubles, Ambrose was able to hold his spot in the point standings at 18th.

“We had a good night and we fought hard all day,” Ambrose stated. “We had some troubles and went a couple laps down. Pit strategy got us back on track. We got some track position and made the most of it -- just a great night for our team. We just don’t give up. It’s our first year on most of these tracks and our first time here in a Cup car. It’s very hard to expect solid results, but we’re really doing it. We’re doing it week in and week out and we’re excited about that.”
