After collecting his series leading fifth pole of the season for Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway with his teammate Scott Speed to his right, Brian Vickers was able to collect a top-10 for the No. 83 team.
“I’m really proud of the efforts from the entire Red Bull team,” Vickers commented. Running second on lap 246 when the sixth yellow flag was dropped, Vickers and Hamlin were able to pass Jimmie Johnson on the following restart. Credited for leading lap 151, Vickers and Hamlin made contact on a restart sending the driver of the No. 83 Toyota back to seventh.
Remaining seventh, Vickers was able to reel in his eighth top-10 of the 2009 season. Vickers’ efforts moved him up one spot in the point standings to 16th, 146 points shy of the top-12.
“They make a great show,” Vickers stated of the double-file restarts. “There are days like today where it was frustrating. You know what — I made up two or three spots because I was on the outside for the double-file restarts. It could have been single file and I may not have gotten a couple of those spots we got there at the end. But, I also lost a few at the end. That’s just how it’s going to be. You’re going to win some and you’re going to lose some, but it’s going to be one helluva show.” MORE NASCAR NEWS
