Down in Atlanta, Georgia four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers participated in a two-day Goodyear tire test session at Atlanta Motor Speedway to aid the tire company in developing a quality tire for the September 6 race at the 1.5-mile track. Now that the test has been completed the Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Jamie McMurray have found success with the tire Goodyear provided.
Points leader Stewart noted that the tires were better on short runs, and didn’t know how durable the product would be. "We found some stuff that's better, but we aren't yet sure how durable it is and how long it will hold up," Stewart said on Tuesday afternoon. "For short runs, it's shown to be a little better.” Instead of the drivers testing different compounds, they tested the drivability of pre-selected tire sets.
Feeling lucky to have gotten the chance to take part in the test, Hamlin stated that he was pleased with the tires that were provided. "They're basically throwing tire sets at us and saying, 'Tune around these tires and see what it takes.' For us, we aren't exactly doing the 'A' versus 'B' with the compounds, but they are throwing different sets at us and the tires are doing really well." MORE NASCAR NEWS
