Hardcore race fans have cast their votes for the next inductees to the Talladega - Texaco Walk of Fame and have chosen Morgan Shepherd and Jack Smith to receive the honors. Shepherd won out over Michael Waltrip and Kasey Kahne for the active driver nomination. Jack Smith won in the inactive driver category. Shepherd made his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at the Hickory Motor Speedway in 1970. The popular 67 year old driver from North Carolina has four Sprint Cup victories and 15 NASCAR Nationwide Series wins to his credit. He was the 1980 NASCAR Late Model Sportsman champion and still competes on the Nationwide Series circuit.

Jack Smith was one of NASCAR's early pioneers, beginning his driving career in 1949. Smith, of Metropolis, Illinois, won 21 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in his 15 year career and is a member of the NMPA Hall of Fame. Smith passed away at the age of 78 in 2001. The induction ceremony will take place at the Talladega - Texaco Walk of Fame located in downtown Talladega on Saturday, October 31, 2009. MORE NASCAR NEWS
