Ambrose A Threat At The Glen
Saturday, 08 August 2009 11:32

marcos-ambroseWhile Marcos Ambrose has increasingly shown his strength as a well-rounded driver on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit, there is no better chance for him to prove his worth than this weekend in Watkins Glen. The Australian-native cut his teeth on the road courses down under and since making the move to the big leagues of NASCAR always been a threat when turning left and right, but now is his time to shine.

Returning to the site of his only NASCAR victory, Ambrose will be looking to defend his win on Saturday in the Nationwide Series while keeping his eye on the bigger prize on Sunday. After taking his first career checkered flag in NASCAR competition, Ambrose secured a third-place finish in last year’s Cup race. With the monkey of his back and confidence on his side the JTG-Daugherty Racing driver wants a win on Sunday this year.

Last year Ambrose was still cutting his teeth in the series, but this year his results and performances have turned a number of heads. With two top-5s and five top-10s, Ambrose has performed not only on the road courses, but on all types of tracks on the circuit. His top-10 finishes include tracks such as Bristol, Daytona, Pocono and Talladega – not to mention eleventh-place finishes at Richmond and Chicago.

“We have had some great runs on ovals, superspeedways and at a road course,” Ambrose explained. “This is only our first year and we are still getting our legs under us. We had no expectations and we are pleasantly surprised at our progress in such a short amount of time.”

Sitting eighteenth in points, a Chase berth for this year is unlikely yet Ambrose is still eager to get that first win in the Cup Series. With arguably his best track laying ahead of him this weekend and a fourth-place starting spot for Sunday’s race, now is the time for Ambrose to strike.
