Thursday August 13th, 2009 will mark the 20th anniversary of NASCAR driver Tim Richmond’s untimely death. Richmond’s career in NASCAR was brief but he was an incredible driver who made on monstrous impact on the sport of auto racing. He raced between 1980 and 1987 and earned 13 wins and a career best points finish of 3rd at the end of the 1986 season. Unfortunately, Richmond was diagnosed with AIDS between the ’86 and ’87 seasons. The disease shortened his career and his life. He passed away just a little over two years after his final win in NASCAR’s premier series.
People have said that if he had lived longer and continued to race, Dale Earnhardt Sr. would not have earned seven championships. Richmond was that good. To celebrate the life of this great NASCAR driver, HardcoreRaceFans.com will post articles over the next couple of days honoring Mr. Richmond and his career. MORE NASCAR NEWS
