The highlight of last year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway was the on-track action after the checkered flag flew.

Carl Edwards won the event after using the age old bump-and-run tactic on Kyle Busch.

Obviously, Busch was none to happy about the move and let Edwards know how he felt after the race by hitting him on the cool down lap. Edwards retaliated by spinning Busch out.

NASCAR immediately called the two drivers into the hauler and Busch actually did the smart thing by pulling into the pits rather than continuing his assault on the race winner.

The two drivers explained their opinions on the situation during post-race interviews.

“Carl’s going to say sorry he didn’t want to race that way. He always does,” Busch said next to his second place car. “We’ll take it, we’ll go on and we’ll race him that way in the Chase if that’s the way he wants to race.”

Edwards explained his thought process during his Victory Lane celebration.

“I decided to ask myself ‘would he do that to me’ and he has before so, that’s the way it goes,” he said.

Edwards went on to win three more races by the end of the season. Busch’s best finish in the remaining 12 races of 2008 was a 4th place at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in October.

However, Busch redeemed himself by winning the Food City 500 at BMS earlier this year. In fact, so far this season Busch has won three times while Edwards remains winless.

Perhaps Edwards will get back to Victory Lane Saturday night during the Sharpie 500. Maybe it will even come down to him and Rowdy again.

If so, that bump-and-run move might come in handy.
