‘ Front row’ Joe Nemechek and Juan Pablo Montoya were fastest in the two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice sessions today. Nemechek, who has to qualify in on time, topped the charts in the first practice with a fast lap of 21.975 seconds at a speed of 122.867mph. He was the only driver to get under the 22 second mark. Greg Biffle was 2nd with a lap of 22.024. Montoya was fastest in the second and final practice session for the Cup Series. He ran a lap of 21.702 seconds at a speed of 124.412mph.
In this practice session, the top 25 drivers ran laps under 22 seconds. Defending series champion Jimmie Johnson finished the session in 2nd with a lap time of 21.706 seconds. Scott Speed was the fastest go-or-go-home driver in the final practice session. He ended up 16th with a time of 21.907 seconds. Sprint Cup qualifying is scheduled to air on ESPN2 at 5:30pm ET today. The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway will begin tomorrow evening at 7pm ET on ABC.
