Kasey Kahne had a disappointing day at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, dropping from fifth to 12th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase point standings after encountering engine problems on lap 66 of the 300 lap event. “We lost an engine, I don’t know why," Kahne said after exiting the #9 Richard Petty Motorsports Dodge. "I felt it start to run a little bit rough down the backstretch and it broke on the frontstretch. I thought that it was coming, the gauges all looked good, but I knew that it was coming."

Kahne started the Sylvania 300 from the 11th spot and was running in the top 10 when the engine let go, regulating him to a 38th place finish in the first of the 10 Chase races. “It’s disappointing," Kahne said. "It’s better than last week because we wouldn’t have been in the Chase. We just have to work extra hard now. I don’t know how this all works. You never know in the Chase if you can have a mulligan or not. This team is doing a nice job. We’ll be 12th when we leave here. Hopefully, we can make gains in those final nine (races).” The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Dover this coming weekend where Kahne recorded a sixth place finish in the June race. MORE NASCAR NEWS
