Saturday, 26 September 2009 15:04

Tim Flock was the most successful, in regards to NASCAR racing, of the famous Flock family. Tim’s brothers Bob and Fonty and his sister Ethel also drove in the Cup Series at one time or another.

Flock was a two-time Cup champion and was the first driver to truly dominate the series. Out of 187 career starts, he managed to get to Victory Lane 39 times, including 18 wins in 1955.

Flock won his first title in 1952 driving a Hudson Hornet. His second came three years later in 1955.

In 1953, Flock had a co-pilot during a handful of races, a Rhesus monkey named Jocko Flocko; the pair went to victory lane together on May 16th of that year in Hickory, N.C. Jocko was retired shortly after when he got loose in the car during a race and forced Flock to make a pit stop to remove the monkey from the race car.

Flock certainly made NASCAR history.
