Hendrick Teammates Finish 1-2 In Dover
Sunday, 27 September 2009 17:28

jimmie-johnsonDefending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and his teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, current points leader, Mark Martin finished first and second in the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Johnson dominated the event by leading over 370 of the 400 laps to earn his 5th victory at Dover.

“Just an awesome race car, awesome day,” he said in Victory Lane. “(I am) just so happy to go out and get a maximum points day which is what we needed to do.”

As always, he has his eye on the year end prize, which would be Johnson’s 4th-consecutive Cup Series championship. He is now only 10 points behind Martin.

There were nine cautions in the event with the latest coming on lap 368 when Sam Hornish spun on the backstretch. Johnson managed to hold off Martin for the last 27 laps of the race.

Most of the cautions were for wrecks, including the second yellow flag of the day after Joey Logano got nudged and ended up flipping multiple times. The Monster Mile has always been notorious for collecting race cars and it certainly ate a few today.joey-logano

Matt Kenseth and Chase for the Sprint Cup contenders Juan Pablo Montoya and Kurt Busch rounded out the top-10.

Another Hendrick driver, Jeff Gordon, finished 6th followed by A.J. Allmendinger and Kasey Kahne.

Chase contenders and teammates Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman completed the top-10.

Next week, the Sprint Cup Series will be in Kansas for the Price Chopper 400 presented by Kraft Foods.
