Hall Of Fame Nominees - Rick Hendrick
Monday, 28 September 2009 23:00

Rick Hendrick is one of the most successful NASCAR team owners in the sport’s history with his teams earning 11 NASCAR national series championships.

The team recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and is hunting its 9th Cup Series championship this year; three of the team’s four drivers are currently in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The team already has eight Cup titles, four with Jeff Gordon, three-consecutive with Jimmie Johnson and one with Terry Labonte.

Currently, Gordon, Johnson, Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have rides in his stables. But over the years some of NASCAR’s greatest drivers have driven for Hendrick including Darrell Waltrip, Tim Richmond, Benny Parsons, Ken Schrader and Kyle Busch.

Off the track, Hendrick is a champion in his own right. He battled Leukemia in 1996 and beat the disease. Because of his struggles he has given a lot of time and money to Leukemia research in order to help others who are fighting it. He established the Hendrick Marrow Program in 1997.
