Hall Of Fame Nominees – Bud Moore
Thursday, 01 October 2009 23:00

Bud Moore was crew chief for Buck Baker in 1957 and then decided to buy a car and start a team a few years later. In only the second and third years of the team’s existence, they won the Cup championship with driver Joe Weatherly.

Over the years, Moore’s cars became recognized as reliable, winning rides and some of the sport’s biggest names, like Bobby Allison, David Pearson, Buddy Baker, Dale Earnhardt and Fireball Roberts, tried their hand behind the wheel of a Moore car.

His cars won 63 times in nearly every race on the circuit including the Daytona 500. Total, his teams accumulated 298 top-5 finishes and 463 top-10’s.

He also expanded his stables to include cars for other types of racing, including the Sports Car Club of America where he won the 1970 championship with driver Parnelli Jones.

He was a man who knew racing from outside the driver’s seat and developed one of NASCAR’s first dominant teams.
