Hamlin Takes Pepsi 500 Pole At Fontana

denny-hamlinDenny Hamlin will start Sunday's Pepsi 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Fontana, California from the pole after recording a lap around the two-mile Auto Club Speedway at 183.870 mph. It is Hamlin's first pole win of the season.

 

David Reutimann posted the second fastest lap with a speed of 183.108 and will line up alongside Hamlin on the outside of the front row.

 

 

Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson and Juan Pablo Montoya, who had the fastest car in practice, rounded out the top five in today's qualifying session.

Martin Truex, Jr., Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer and current point leader Mark Martin qualified sixth through tenth.

 

Hamlin is sixth in points going into Sunday’s race and trails Martin by 99 points.

 

Tony Raines and Mike Wallace did not qualify for Sunday's 43-car race.

 

The Pepsi 500 will be broadcast live on ABC-TV with coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
