Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin were the fastest in the final two practices for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Johnson ran a time of 39.855 seconds at 180.655mph in the second practice for the series and Martin made a fast lap of 39.935 seconds at 180.293mph in the final session.
Last weekend, Johnson and Martin’s teams were warned by NASCAR because their setups pushed the rulebook to the limits. Their cars were taken to NASCAR’s research and development center for further scrutiny after last weekend’s race. Obviously, the incident has not worried their teams any. In the second session, Denny Hamlin finished 2nd followed by Juan Pablo Montoya and Kurt Busch in 3rd and 4th. Martin ended up 5th. Casey Mears was second to Martin in the final practice. Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Ryan Newman rounded out the top-5. The Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway in California is scheduled to broadcast at 2:30pm ET tomorrow on ABC. MORE NASCAR NEWS
