kasey-kahneKasey Kahne was definitely disappointed with his outcome at the Auto Club Speedway Sunday afternoon and says it all started with a caution designed to bunch up the field and make a better race for hardcore race fans.

"We worked hard all day, got ourselves in a good position," Kahne explained. "I think it was going to be a good points day, and NASCAR threw a debris caution for no debris, which caused Kurt Busch to hit the wall, which caused me to go to the grass and Greg Biffle. And from there, that caused the whole next wreck on the front stretch. It's disappointing that we had a bad race because of a caution to put a show on for the fans. That's a good part of the sport, we have to keep the fans excited, but sometimes it ruins people's days, and today it was our day."

Kahne lined up seventh on the lap 239 restart behind Kurt Busch. Busch got loose on the exit of turn four and made contact with the outside retaining wall before colliding with Kahne's Dodge who in turn collected the Ford of Greg Biffle.

The popular 29 year old driver visited pit road for quick repairs and returned to the track for the restart on lap 244.

When the green flag was displayed to the field, mayhem ensued with an eight car crash, including all four of the Richard Petty Motorsports entries.

“I was following the 44, so I can’t see anything, Kahne said of the second incident. "He (AJ Allmendinger) turned left to miss the wreck and I hit the wreck. I never heard that there was a wreck, so I hit it. We had a top six or seven car. Kurt (Busch) screwed up and we got in his mess. From there, we got in this wreck. It’s disappointing to go out of the race like that when we had a good car.”

Kahne ended up 34th and dropped to eleventh in the Chase point standings.

A reported crowd of 70,000 hardcore race fans saw a good show in California.
