Known mostly for being a car owner, Glen Wood also had a successful racing career in NASCAR’s early days.
He raced in the Cup Series and had four wins all at Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston Salem, NC.
After 62 starts, Wood decided he fit best as a car owner rather than a driver and teamed up with his brothers to form Wood Brothers Racing. The team as a whole has accumulated 96 victories with drivers like David Pearson, Tiny Lund, Parnelli Jones and Bill Elliott.
The team also expanded to other forms of auto racing and won the 1965 Indy 500 with driver Jim Clark.
The Wood Brothers are also credited with revolutionizing pit stops and making pit crews more efficient.
