jimmie-johnsonJimmie Johnson recorded a blistering 192.376 mph in Thursday nights NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rain delayed qualifying for Saturday's NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowes Motor Speedway, edging teammate Mark Martin for the pole.

"It was just a great effort," said Johnson. "I'm very proud of (crew chief) Chad (Knaus) and the guys to give me a car right off the truck like that and then happy to go out and back it up when it counted in qualifying. The lap was good."

Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart qualified third, fourth and fifth.

Michael McDowell, Sterling Marlin, Dave Blaney and Travis Kvapil failed to make the 43 car starting field.
