With the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series ready for some Martinsville mayhem this weekend, the drivers and teams are looking forward to the action in the Kroger 200 Truck event and the Cup Series TUMS Fast Relief 500.
Now that three-time defending Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson has a 90 point lead over 2nd place Mark Martin, it is as good a time as any for some good racing to possibly shake up the standings. Johnson, however, is also the reigning champ at the .526-mile oval after taking the checkers in the spring race there over Denny Hamlin. In the truck series, Ron Hornaday has fairly run away with the championship already as the teams head into the final five-race stretch of the season. Hornaday finished 2nd in the spring event at Martinsville to his car owner, Cup regular Kevin Harvick. All things considered, the championship battles are sure to heat up as will the tempers that go hand-in-hand with short track racing. Here is the schedule for this weekend’s activities at Martinsville Speedway: Friday – 10am ET – Truck Practice 11:30am ET – Cup Practice (broadcast on SPEED) 1pm ET – Truck Final Practice (broadcast on SPEED) 3:10pm ET – Cup Qualifying (broadcast on ESPN2) 4:40pm ET – Truck Qualifying Saturday – 10am ET – Cup Practice (broadcast on ESPN2) 11:15am ET – Cup Final Practice (broadcast via tape delay on ESPN2 at 6:30pm) 12:30pm ET – Truck Series Kroger 200 Race (broadcast on SPEED) Sunday – 1pm ET – Cup Series TUMS Fast Relief 500 (broadcast on ABC) MORE NASCAR NEWS
