Newman Edges Gordon For Martinsville Pole

ryan-newman"Rocket" Ryan Newman toured the 1/2 mile Martinsville Speedway in 19.563 seconds during qualifying this afternoon, edging Jeff Gordon to win the pole for Sunday's Tums Fast Relief 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

 

Four time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon will start from the outside of the front row after recording his best lap in 19.619 seconds around the picturesque track in Virginia.

 

 

Martin Truex, Jr. qualified third, Mark Martin fourth and David Reutimann will start fifth.

 

Casey Mears, Joey Logano, Bobby Labonte, Reed Sorenson and Kevin Harvick will line up sixth through 10th on Sunday's grid.

 

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point leader Jimmie Johnson will start 15th. Johnson currently leads Mark Martin by 90 points and is trying to win a record fourth consecutive Sprint Cup Series championship.

 

The Tums Fast Relief 500 will be broadcast live Sunday, October 25, on ABC-TV with coverage scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET.
