NASCAR driver Morgan Shepherd has won the active driver nomination for the Talladega-Texaco Walk of Fame and Jack Smith was awarded the inactive driver nomination.
The two men will be enshrined in the Walk of Fame this Saturday, October 31st. Shepherd is the co-owner of Faith Motorsports and currently runs in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Throughout his nearly 40 year career, Shepherd has earned four Cup Series victories and 15 in the Nationwide Series.
Smith had a 15 year career in NASCAR’s top division that began in 1949. He earned 21 wins in that time period and has previously been inducted into the NMPA Hall of Fame. He passed away at the age of 78 in 2001. The four original inductees to the Walk of Fame at Talladega were the members of the “Alabama Gang” Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Red Farmer and Neil Bonnett. Since then, numerous drivers have been honored with a plaque on the Walk of Fame including Tim Flock, Fireball Roberts, Lee Petty, Bobby Isaac, Alan Kulwicki, Darrell Waltrip, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Bill Elliott and Dale Earnhardt, to name a few. Davey Allison is also remembered in the Walk of Fame with a large marble monument. Allison lost his life at Talladega Superspeedway in July 1993 following a helicopter crash in the infield of the track. For additional information, visit www.talladegawalk.com. MORE NASCAR NEWS
