Michael Waltrip is the only NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver to finish both Cup practice sessions in the top-10 today at Talladega Superspeedway.
Kasey Kahne topped the charts in the first session this afternoon in his No. 9 Budweiser Dodge with a lap time of 48.871 seconds at 195.944mph while Clint Bowyer was fastest in the second session with a lap time of 49.577 seconds at 193.154mph. Bowyer was 15th in the initial practice and Kahne ended the final session in 13th.
Denny Hamlin, Paul Menard, Erik Darnell and Joey Logano rounded out the top-five in the first session, followed by Carl Edwards and Robby Gordon in 6th and 7th, respectively. Casey Mears ended up 8th, followed by Waltrip in 9th and Jeff Burton in 10th. In the second session, Waltrip ended up 2nd with Jimmie Johnson, Reed Sorenson and Kurt Busch rounding out the top-five. Jeff Gordon finished 6th, followed by David Ragan in 7th, Matt Kenseth in 8th, and A.J. Allmendinger and Greg Biffle in 9th and 10th, respectively. The Sprint Cup series will qualify for Sunday’s AMP Energy 500 at 12pm ET tomorrow. The AMP Energy 500 is scheduled to begin at 12pm ET on Sunday and will be broadcast on ABC. MORE NASCAR NEWS
