michael-waltripTalladega Superspeedway has always produced exciting racing for hardcore race fans and today's AMP Energy 500 will be no different. Will it be the wildest 500 run since that first NASCAR race at the 2.66 mile Alabama track some forty years ago? NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Elliott Sadler says it is a good possibility.

Talladega Superspeedway officials brought in a Native American medicineman on October 22 who performed a blessing ceremony at the start-finish line to ask for reconciliation and restore balance to the legendary speedway built on Indian burial grounds.

Sprint Cup practice sessions provided plenty of excitment Friday with the cars running close and bump drafting through the turns. Clint Bowyer, running in a tight pack, wrecked his #33 Chevrolet as a result of contact with Erik Darnell. NASCAR parked Michael Waltrip prior to the end of practice after warning him not to bump draft in the turns.

NASCAR president Mike Helton addressed the competitors in the drivers meeting ealier today and explained that bump drafting in the turns would not be tolerated.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been outspoken regarding this rule change today, comparing it to the NFL "going from tackle football to two-hand-touch."

Only time will tell what will happen in this afternoon's Amp Energy 500 but surely Talladega is a race no hardcore race fans want to miss.
