The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AMP Energy 500 was an interesting race to say the least.

The controversial call in the pre-race driver’s meeting that prohibited drivers from bump drafting in the turns started a series of events that led to a very strange race indeed.

Due to the new rule and the smaller restrictor plates, there was a lot of single file racing, more than normal for a Dega race. It was difficult for the drivers to pass each other so they just lined up and waited.

With less than twenty laps to go, the drivers finally decided to let loose which ultimately led to two large crashes with only a handful of laps to go. During the spring race, Carl Edward’s flip was the wreck heard round the world but it was topped by two rollovers on Sunday.

In the end, Jamie McMurray hung on for the win just in front of Kasey Kahne and Joey Logano.

Series points leader Jimmie Johnson stayed at the back of the pack all day hoping to avoid wrecks and it looked like he might lost some points near the end of the race. But, he pulled one off by making it through the late race melee for a 6th place finish that now gives him a 184 point lead over second place Mark Martin.
