Top-Three Divisions Means Hectic Texas Weekend
Written by Lindsey Marks
Thursday, 05 November 2009 23:00

matt-craftonFor the final three races of the 2009 NASCAR season, all three of the sport’s top divisions will run together at Texas, Phoenix and finally Homestead-Miami.

In Texas this weekend, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is getting closer to naming their 2009 series champion. Ron Hornaday currently holds a 202-point lead on second place Matt Crafton. If Hornaday can hold that lead through this weekend’s race and the following race at Phoenix, he will wrap up the championship even before the final race weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The same holds true in the NASCAR Nationwide Series where Kyle Busch has a 215-point lead over second place Carl Edwards. The real battle in that series will be between Edwards and third place Brad Keselowski who is only 42 points out of second. carl-edwards

In the Sprint Cup Series, Jimmie Johnson is also nearing his fourth consecutive championship. Second place Mark Martin is 184 points behind Johnson headed into this weekend’s race. Jeff Gordon is eight points behind Martin and 4th place Juan Pablo Montoya is 47 points behind him.

With all three series running together for the last three races of the year, the schedule is sure to be hectic especially as the championships near.
