busch-brothersKyle Busch went for it all, trying to make NASCAR history at Texas Motor Speedway.  Winning back to back Friday and Saturday in the Truck and Nationwide Series races, Kyle Busch dominated Sunday’s Dickies 500, leading 232 of the 334.

Kurt and Kyle Busch battled all day Sunday to the very end.  In the end Kyle Busch had not saved enough fuel and gave up the win to bigger brother Kurt Busch, who saved just enough fuel to finish the race, running out during his celebration.

“It was quite a bit of fun,” Kurt Busch said. “To have (Kyle) going for the sweep of the weekend, I was rooting for him and it was bittersweet. We took the sweet part because you want to win on Sunday.”

Kyle Busch wound up 11th after pulling out to over five-second leads over the field at times.  Kyle ran out of fuel on lap 332, just two laps short and was forced to hit pit road.

“I thought we had one of the best cars throughout the entire race, but it just didn’t work out that way,” said Kyle Busch’s crew chief Kurt Rogers, “Our only shot at winning it was to stay out. So, we gambled. Sometimes when you gamble you lose. (Kyle Busch) is frustrated. You lead all those laps and he could have gone for the clean sweep this weekend. He deserved to win three in a row and to get beat – it’s tough.”

Mark Martin had a strong run finishing fourth, taking advantage of Johnson’s misfortune who wrecked on lap 3 of the Dickies 500 and was only able to salvage a 38th place finish.  Martin cut the lead to 73 points behind point leader Jimmie Johnson.

“Two guys that knocked me out of championships are breathing down my neck so the race is still on,” Martin said. “I don’t know why everybody tries to cap this thing out and doesn’t just wait and watch. There are still two races to go and still things that can happen.”
