The trophy that will be awarded to the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Daytona 500 champion has arrived at Daytona International Speedway.
The Harley J. Earl trophy, named after a General Motors designer who was friends with NASCAR founder Bill France Sr., was constructed by artist John Lajba of Omaha, Ne.
The trophy is 18 inches tall, 22 inches wide and 12 inches deep and it weighs in at 54 pounds. On top of the tri-oval shaped black base sits a scaled down replica of the Firebird One, which was designed by Earl in 1954. During the promotional events leading up to the premier race of the 2010 season, the trophy will travel from place to place and fans will be able to follow its progress both on Twitter and Facebook. Hardcore race fans who would like to see where the trophy has been can visit www.twitter.com/DISupdates or www.facebook.com/DaytonaInternationalSpeedway.
