1 And 2 Will Start 1 And 2 At Phoenix

martin-truex-jrFor the first time in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history, car No. 1 and car No. 2 will start 1st and 2nd in Sunday’s Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500.

 

Martin Truex Jr. earned his third pole of the year with a fast lap of 26.643 seconds at 135.120mph in his No. 1 Rain-X Chevy.

 

Kurt Busch in the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge will start Sunday’s race on the outside pole after running at 134.579mph for a lap time of 26.750 seconds. 

 

Current series points leader Jimmie Johnson will start third followed by fellow Chase for the Sprint Cup contenders Kasey Kahne and Denny Hamlin.

 

Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, Casey Mears and Mark Martin rounded out the top-10. kurt-busch

 

Regan Smith, Kevin Conway and Brandon Ash failed to qualify for Sunday’s event.

 

The Sprint Cup Series will have two more practice sessions tomorrow and then the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 is scheduled to broadcast on ABC at 2:30pm ET Sunday.
