After rain cancelled the second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice earlier today, teammates Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the top three spots in the final Cup practice session.
Johnson’s fast lap of 27.201 seconds at 132.348mph put him on top of the charts ahead of his two teammates and Martin Truex Jr. and Chase for the Sprint Cup contender Kurt Busch who finished 4th and 5th, respectively.
Jeff Burton ended up 6th in front of the other Hendrick driver Jeff Gordon who was 7th. Jamie McMurray, Joey Logano and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top-10 in happy hour. The Hendrick teammates were also successful in the first practice session for the Cup Series yesterday. Sam Hornish topped the charts with a fast lap of 26.889 seconds which put him in front of Kahne and Kyle Busch who were 2nd and 3rd. Chase for the Sprint Cup contenders Greg Biffle and Denny Hamlin finished 4th and 5th, respectively in that practice. Juan Pablo Montoya was 6th, just in front of Johnson and Martin. Tony Stewart was in a Hendrick Motorsports sandwich between 8th place Martin and 10th place Gordon. However, Johnson and Martin are the only Hendrick drivers to qualify in the top-10 for tomorrow’s race. The Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 is scheduled to broadcast on ABC at 2:30pm ET tomorrow.
