Denny Hamlin earned his fourth win of the year in the last race of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
In Victory Lane, Hamlin said that he will be there celebrating a championship within the next few years.
He wanted to be right where Jimmie Johnson was. Johnson, after finishing the race in 5th, earned his fourth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship; a record breaking title. Cale Yarborough is the only driver besides Johnson to get three-in-a-row and this has topped it all. “Thank you fans, I hear ya, I appreciate it,” Johnson said immediately after climbing out of his car. “To do something they’ve (Yarborough, Earnhardt, Petty, Gordon, etc.) never done is awesome.” Johnson was teary-eyed as he received kind words from runner-up Mark Martin and others. Martin, who has finished 2nd in the points championship five times in his career and has never won the Cup, was still pleased with his season. “For me to even have a chance is pretty incredible,” he said after the race. Johnson earned the championship with a 141 point lead over Martin. MORE NASCAR NEWS
